Gorsehill Abbey Farm has been certified as organic since 1990 and as organic farmers we aim to produce high quality food in a way which benefits our whole food system from people to planet, plant health to animal welfare.
We do not use any artificial fertilisers or pesticides on our farm and do not routinely use antibiotics or any genetically modified products. Organic standards are the highest standards of animal welfare.
Our cows are at the heart of our farm and crucial to its sustainability. They spend as much time outdoors as possible, grazing our traditional pastures, rich in clover, herbs, and rare grasses. They convert this pasture to nutritious milk, at the same time adding natural fertility to the ground and helping to lock carbon back into the soil through the process of sequestration.
We have solar panels on our barns to provide electricity to power our milking parlour and pasteuriser. Our on-farm reservoir collects ground water and rainwater which is reused on the farm. We also recycle water used in the cooling process of making ice cream.
We travel around the farm on foot or by push bike and there are no food miles involved in getting our milk from grass to your glass!
